Be Brave.

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid.”

Proverbs 3:24B

We also read before and after verses that go along with this.  The rest of verse 24 says, “When you lie down, you will sleep soundly.”

Verse 25-26: “Don’t be afraid by sudden trouble; don’t be afraid when sinners are destroyed.”

“The Lord is the one you will trust in.  He will keep your feet from being caught in a trap.”

When my boys pick out the character trait, I know they’re looking for the one that will be easiest to model for that week.  Eli saw “Be Brave” and thought, “Hmmm…I can do that.”  In fact, both Isaac and Eli said, “Logan will never get this one.”  Thus, eliminating one brother  from the competition.  I  took this as an opportunity to discuss what this verse means and how to apply it to our  lives.

We looked up brave, which also means courageous, and also afraid, which means not to worry.  How can we be brave and courageous, not worrying about our lives?

The answer is simple:  Only with Jesus!

Even my boys knew that.  But applying it to our lives and living it is a different thing.  Everyone struggles with worry; yet the Bible tells us not to worry, that God will take care of our every need. 

Read Matthew 6:25-34.

“Do not worry about your life and what you will eat or drink.  And don’t worry about your body and what you will wear.  Isn’t there more to life than eating?  Aren’t there more important things for the body than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air.  They don’t plant or gather crops.  They don’t put away crops in storerooms.  But your Father who is in Heaven feeds them.  Aren’t YOU worth much  more than they are?”

We are so important to God!  Trust that He’ll take care of us.  He loves us.  Don’t worry about tomorrow or the next day or the next.  “Each day has its own trouble.”  We must realize that we need God and we can’t do our own thing.  Things don’t work out for the good when we are independent from God.

Be brave and trust the journey God has you on.
